Bob Mullin, Mayor of the Township of Stirling-Rawdon, was officially sworn in today as the Warden of Hastings County and will hold the office for the next two years.

“I want to express my sincere gratitude for the confidence County Council have shown me and I pledge to work as hard as I can to ensure that our services support the residents and businesses who may need them,” said Warden Mullin.
“The last few years have shown the critical importance of our services to people, but it has also highlighted the need to continue to invest in our services including paramedic and long-term care operations. Likewise, developing new housing, working to prevent homelessness and ensuring affordable childcare services will demand our attention”, added Mullin.
“Hastings County has many critical services, and our job as a Council is to enable our staff to do their jobs. I am committed to making sure that we do our best to ensure that they have the support of our Council behind them,” Mullin concluded.
BACKGROUND
Warden Mullin was first elected to Stirling-Rawdon Township Council in 2010, was re-elected in 2014 as Deputy Mayor. He began his first term as Mayor in 2018 and was re-elected as Mayor in October.
In his personal work, Warden Mullin owned a cattle & cash crop farm in the New Liskeard area for nine years before working for United Co-operatives of Ontario where he had a number of moves in Northern Ontario, before being transferred to Eastern Ontario. He purchased the Home Hardware store in Stirling in 1995 in order to stay in one location while their children were attending school, and has built a thriving business. He and his wife Shirley have three children and three grandchildren.
SUMMARY OF 2023-2024 PRIORITIES
Ensure that the local childcare system is prepared to meet the increased demands on the system as a result of the Canada Wide Early Learning and Child Care agreement between the Provincial and Federal governments;
Continue prioritizing addressing the housing crisis through multiple channels;
Ensure that Hastings County is well poised to work with the Province as it continues with the Social Assistance Transformation across Ontario;
Continue focusing on addressing the situation around homelessness across the Service Area while implementing meaningful programs that reduce and prevent homelessness. Hastings County will continue prioritizing working with local partners to find solutions that have demonstrated the ability to help assist individuals in finding long term housing solutions;
Continue the work of the development and implementation of the KPMG staffing strategy for Long-Term Care;
Continue to support Paramedics through the increasing call volumes and pressures;
Completion and implementation of Service Delivery Review for the Planning Department;
Administrative amendment(s) to the Official Plan to bring it further into alignment with provincial direction, including opportunities to provide efficiency in planning services;
Continue to foster new and/or improved ways the Planning and Development Department can identify and facilitate opportunities to provide more housing;
Attracting commitment from more investors and developers to create new transient accommodations to support the demand and growing number of visitors to our County;
Focus more on increasing tourism revenue in the colder months of the year by working with local accommodators and attractions to create more, and expand existing, Fall/Winter/Spring purchasable experiences;
