The Planning Department has an opening for two (2) full-time Planners. These are non-unionized positions reporting to the Director of Planning, Tourism and Economic Development. Under general direction of the Director of Planning and Economic Development, the Planner position is responsible to process, review and report on various planning applications and planning related issues and policies. Each of these positions will report out of their respective satellite office in Bancroft and Centre Hastings (village of Madoc) with the requirement to attend meetings at the County Administration Building in Belleville as required.
DUTIES:
Report Writing & Preparation:
•Review and prepare reports for a variety of planning applications and policies.
•Present reports and background information to the Planning/Land Division/9-1-1 Committee, local councils and committees.
Communication:
•Provide information and advice to applicants, consultants and the general public.
•Liaise with local municipal staff, provincial ministries and agencies.
Planning Studies:
•Administer peer review processes for technical studies.
•Conduct or coordinate special planning studies.
•Attend public hearings, OLT hearings, and local municipal council meetings.
Data Maintenance and Recording:
•Maintain appropriate planning information and databases.
Health & Safety:
•Be aware of and follow the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and County policies.
•Other related duties as assigned.
•Works in a safe manner in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, associated regulations, other applicable legislation, County by-laws, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
▪Three-year University Degree in Planning or a related discipline (i.e. Environmental Studies, Geography).
▪Eligibility for membership in the Ontario Professional Planning Institute and the Canadian Institute of Planners.
▪Must have a valid Driver’s license and reliable transportation.
▪Minimum two years related experience.
▪Proficient in the use of ArcGIS, Microsoft Work, Access and Excel.
▪Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with member municipality staff, local First Nations and external agencies/authorities.
▪Effective problem solving skills, independent decision making, discretion and good judgement.
▪Ability to establish priorities and work schedule to meet tight deadlines to minimize delays.
▪High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
▪Excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, judgement and accuracy.
▪A thorough understanding of the Planning Act and other related Provincial and Federal legislation.
HOURS OF WORK: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week
SALARY RANGE: $84,633 - $99,009 per annum, with excellent fringe benefits
