Hastings Manor, Long-Term Care Facility
Hastings Manor is a 253 bed, long-term care facility located in Belleville, Ontario. Our home is currently looking for a Medical Director to join our team in providing quality care and services to our seniors who call Hastings Manor home. The Medical Director will support the residents in our 253 bed Long Term Care Home. The Medical Director will report to the Administrator of the home and will work closely with the clinical leadership team including the Director of Nursing to collaboratively lead, implement, and evaluate the medical services provided in the home. She/he will provide high quality resident centered quality care as a member of our care team.
Hastings Manor team members, including nursing, dietary, recreation, environmental and administration, provide resident centered care in a clean and well-maintained environment.
As Medical Director you will be accountable for the following:
• Provide leadership over the medical services provided in the home as required by the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021, Hastings/Quinte Long-Term Care policies and any other applicable legislation.
• Regularly communicates with other Attending Physicians and/ or Nurse Practitioners regarding relevant policies, procedures, and responsibilities
• Ensures appropriate on-call coverage has been arranged for all residents, after hours, in accordance with the LTC on-call program as established between the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOLTC) and the Ontario Medical Association (OMA)
• Is a strong advocate for interdisciplinary resident-family integrated care and participates in quality improvement initiatives in collaboration with home’s leadership, interdisciplinary team, with residents and their families and caregivers, and with other health system partners.
• Addresses resident acute and chronic care needs and provides appropriate and timely documentation in the home’s electronic medical records (EMR) system
• Identifies circumstances when palliative and/or end of life care may benefit the resident and family members and work collaboratively with members of the interdisciplinary team
• Identifies circumstances in which residents require referral to the appropriate medical consultant and/or other health practitioner and facilitates this care, participating in care conferences and communications.
• Conducts regular medication drug review and documents/updates resident’s health record
• Commits to continuing education related to long term care, care of the elderly, palliative care, and dementia care. Agrees to complete the mandated Ontario Long Term Care Clinicians (OLTCC) Medical Director Course, within one year of hire date, as per the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021.
• Provide advice to the Administrator/ Director of Long-Term Care/ Hastings & Quinte LTC Committee on matters pertaining to the medical care and services in the home.
• Actively participate as a member of the following long-term care home committees: Continuous Quality Improvement; Infection Prevention & Control; Professional Advisory, emergency exercises in the home and participate and/or attend such other committees as mutually agreed upon between the Medical Director and the Administrator
• Co-operate with and/or be available during Ministry compliance reviews pertaining to medical issues, including inquiries made by the compliance advisor, advocates, family members, and persons conducting coroner’s investigations
• Sign both the Medical Director Agreement and the Attending Physician’s Agreement for the home.
Qualifications:
Medical practitioner licensed to practice medicine in the Province of Ontario, and a member in good standing of the Colleges of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)
Previous experience working in Long Term Care (LTC) as an Attending Physician, or preferably, as a Medical Director would be an asset
Must complete OLTCC Medical Director course within 12 months of assuming the position of Medical Director
Ability to build trust within the home leadership team, interprofessional care team, and residents and their families and caregivers, through meaningful, authentic interactions and excellent medical care
Ability to adapt, provide coaching, facilitate change, and continually improve resident care
