Housing Custodian - Temporary Part-Time

Hastings County is currently accepting applications for a Temporary Part-Time Housing Custodian - Float position in the Facilities and Capital Infrastructure Department. This is a temporary part-time contract position with an expected duration of approximately 3 months.
DUTIES:
•Daily cleaning of the building including garbage removal, cleaning of common areas, windows, walls, floors and exterior of the building.
•Respond to emergency issues, assisting Property Supervisors and emergency response personnel
•Perform many types of minor repairs required to the building and tenant residences, including carpentry, plastering, painting and plumbing.
•Carry out minor snow clearing, de-icing and grounds maintenance of public areas.
•Generate work orders and reports for repairing units, annual preventative maintenance inspections, emergency, health and safety and general building repairs,
•Maintain preventative, routine and emergency records for all the building systems,
•Confirm that building repairs, seasonal service contracts, upgrades, or replacements have been completed by various contractors,
•Stock and inventory control,
•Be aware of and carry out the duties as set out in the Occupational Health and Safety and County policies,
•Participate in the rotation schedule for the after hour emergency on call service,
•Such other duties as may be required or assigned from time to time.
QUALIFICATIONS:
•Must possess a Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent and a valid driver’s license.
•One to two years’ experience in general cleaning practices, property maintenance, including basic carpentry, electrical and plumbing repairs.
•Able to safely and competently use hand and power tools.
•Excellent knowledge of cleaning products and chemicals and how to use these products and chemicals.
•Knowledge of apartment building fire alarm systems.
•Ability to work with minimum supervision, organized, reliable, pleasant and responsive to the needs of tenants and the general public.
•Prior completion of asbestos abatement protocol is preferred.
HOURS OF WORK: Maximum 28 hours per week and as per Article 19 of the Collective Agreement
WAGE RANGE: $26.54 - $29.16/hr
